Could a Non-Ablative Laser Help You Feel Like Your Best Self Again?
When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you notice your skin looks different than it did even a few years ago? Does your skin look dull, and almost papery? You may have a condition called crepey skin.
Crepey skin is thin, fragile skin that has a crinkly appearance. Crepey skin is not the same as wrinkled skin.
Crepey skin can occur almost anywhere on the body, but it is most common on the face, arms, legs, and hands. This is because UV radiation from the sun or tanning beds is the most common cause. Other causes include aging, significant weight loss, extremely dry skin, smoking, consuming alcohol, genetics, and certain medical conditions.
Because of these risk factors, the skin is not able to self-repair to maintain elasticity, usually due to a lack of collagen. Collagen is naturally occurring in your body. It is the substance that is responsible for skin cell repair and helps to keep the skin firm, smooth, and soft. The loss of collagen can lead to crepey skin over time.
But there’s hope: Fraxel®. Keep reading to learn how this laser skin resurfacing treatment can help reduce the appearance of crepey skin and find out what you can do to maximize its effects.
How Does Fraxel® Laser Treatment Work On Aging Skin?
Fraxel® laser treatment can help reduce the appearance of crepey skin. It works by accelerating your body’s production of collagen to stimulate regrowth of healthy skin cells.
Fraxel® DUAL targets and treats problematic skin concerns, including crepey skin, uneven tone or pigmentation, scars, sun spots or age spots, and fine lines and wrinkles.
Specifically, Fraxel® DUAL is a fractional, non-ablative device that produces thousands of tiny laser columns that penetrate into hypertargeted deep layers of your skin to hasten collagen production in a process called skin remodeling. The result is the appearance of a new layer of healthy skin.
After treatment, your downtime is minimal, usually less than one week. Some patients are able to return to their normal activities a day after treatment, but others may need a little more time. Both are perfectly normal, because everyone’s recovery is different.
Fraxel® DUAL laser patients will need four to six treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart for best results, according to clinical studies. Regularly attending your Fraxel® laser appointments will help you achieve the best possible results.
In just a couple weeks after each treatment, you’ll notice softer, smoother, more even-toned skin. You’ll see more noticeable improvements three to six months post-treatment.
Maximizing Your Fraxel® Laser Results For Crepey Skin
If you have crepey skin, your body may need help producing collagen. Follow these tips before and after your Fraxel® laser treatments to help support your skin goals and maximize your treatment results.
- Eat collagen-rich foods or foods that support collagen production, like chicken, fish, bone broth, citrus fruits, berries, garlic, beans, leafy greens, bell peppers, and cashews. Make sure your diet is balanced and nourishing.
- Don’t smoke. Medical studies show that smokers’ bodies produce collagen and heal from wounds at a 22% slower rate than those who don’t.
- Stay hydrated; drink plenty of water every day. Women should drink about 92 ounces of water per day, according to the Mayo Clinic. Men should drink about 124 ounces per day. If you don’t drink enough water, slowly work up to your goal amount over the span of a week or two.
Find Out If You’re a Candidate For Fraxel® DUAL Laser
Fraxel® laser treatments are ideal for people 35 years and older whose skin goals align with the capabilities of the laser: improving skin tone and texture, reducing unwanted fine lines and wrinkles, and minimizing the appearance of sun damage and scars.
Many people are ideal candidates for Fraxel® DUAL laser, in part because knowledgeable medical providers – like those at Cosmetic Laser Centers℠ – can adjust laser settings to enhance treatment. Other areas of concern may require different laser settings, creating a patchwork treatment for ideal skin resurfacing results.
To find out if you are a candidate for Fraxel®, you’ll need to attend a consultation with a medical provider whose training includes laser skin treatments. During the consultation, the medical provider will ask you questions about your skin history, any medical conditions you have, and what your skin care goals are.
